What is Urban Devil?
Urban Devil is a web and mobile app designed to help students at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus discover all there is to do on and within walking distance of the campus. You can access Urban Devil online at urbandevil.asu.edu, through the Android Marketplace or through the Apple apps store.
How can I maximize usage of the app?
You can access content without logging in, but to get the most out of the app, log in with your ASUrite sign-on so you can save and share events and get recommendations to similar events.
Who developed Urban Devil?
Urban Devil was developed by the New Media Innovation Lab at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU’s downtown campus.
How is this different than the SmartPHX app?
SmartPHX was designed for a client, not for ASU’s student body. It helps people find things to do (shop, dine, have a drink) at any time the listed establishments are open in downtown Phoenix. Urban Devil, in contrast, lists events happening at a specific time in a specific place, which are appropriate for the campus’ predominately underage audience.
What geographical area is covered?
Urban Devil covers events within the geographical boundaries of 7th Avenue and 7th Street and Roosevelt Row and Jackson. It also includes nearby iconic Phoenix cultural institutions such as Phoenix Art Museum, The Heard Museum and Grand Avenue. Occasionally, major pan-campus ASU events are included.
Why aren’t happy hours included?
With a majority of the app’s thousands of users being underage, the app excludes happy hours and other alcohol-centric events.
How can I get my event listed on Urban Devil?
Easy! Go to this link (http://urbandevil.asu.edu/submit_event/) to submit an event. As long as it is within the geographic area above and not alcohol-centric, it will be considered.
Can’t you enter my event for me?
Urban Devil is a crowdsourced product, not a media outlet with editors providing recommendations or compilations of things to do.
How soon will my event show up?
Usually within a day, unless you submit on a weekend or holiday.
Isn’t there an easier way?
Yes, the benefits of membership! If you are a member of the Downtown Phoenix Partnership or Roosevelt Row Merchants Association, and you already enter your events on one of these organization’s calendars, your event will automatically be streamed into the app.
Why can’t you automate my events?
Automating an events stream involves a considerable investment in programming resources. We can therefore only automate event streams with a critical mass of events.
How do I get my deal listed on Urban Devil?
Businesses wishing to offer deals to Sun Devils of the DPC should offer a deal that lasts up to a year and is redeemable upon presentation of a Sun Card, and make sure all front-line staff are informed of the special. For now, businesses offering such a deal should email email@example.com. A self-submit form will be included in a future release.
I found an error on the app.
